An estimated 50 to 100 tons of material from space reach Earth's surface every day. The vast majority consists of dust and microscopic particles, but even most larger meteorites reach us unnoticed. Only a very few of these "visitors from space" are observed and found by humans. Meteorite falls are therefore extraordinary and rare events that have fascinated humankind for millennia. A guided tour provides a detailed presentation of the meteorite collection at the Geological and Mineralogical Museum of Kiel University. The following questions are answered: How can I identify meteorites? Where do meteorites come from? What are meteorites made of? How old are meteorites? Where are meteorites found? A highlight is the collection of stony meteorites from Schleswig-Holstein.
