Dr Karola Fings is a leading researcher on the history of the Nazi genocide of Sinti* and Roma* and is visiting Kiel. As a research fellow at the Research Centre on Antigypsyism at the University of Heidelberg, she leads the project “Encyclopaedia of the Nazi Genocide of the Sinti and Roma in Europe”. The project brings together previously fragmented knowledge on persecution and murder, thereby filling significant gaps in the research.
For decades, the Nazi crimes against Sinti* and Roma* in Europe were insufficiently documented and addressed. The digital encyclopaedia provides, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of events between 1933 and 1945 as well as their aftermath. More than 100 authors from over 25 countries are contributing to this continuously growing body of knowledge.
Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity for discussion and exchange.
The encyclopaedia can be accessed at: Encyclopaedia of the Genocide of the Sinti and Roma in Europe
The event is partner of Science Comes to Town.
