Further Information
Delegations from ten of Kiel’s twin cities met at Förde Sparkasse on Saturday, 20 June. Among them was the Estonian capital, Tallinn, which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of its partnership with Kiel.
This year’s City Forum was held in partnership with the EU-funded project Science Comes to Town, through which the cities and regions of Kiel, Brest and Split are working together to make science more accessible and engaging for the public. In addition to Kiel’s French twin city, Brest, representatives from the Croatian city of Split also took part in the forum.
Guests were welcomed by Enke Koberg (Förde Sparkasse) and Bettina Aust, President of Kiel City Council. Professor Till Requate of Kiel University delivered the keynote address, while Lord Mayor Dr Samet Yilmaz and Tiit Terik, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, discussed the forum’s main theme. Three workshops also featured contributions from experts from Gdynia (Poland), Vaasa (Finland), Samsun (Türkiye) and Kiel, among others.
On Sunday, 21 June, participants concluded the programme with a visit to the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.
