Workshop: Science Communication in Botanical gardens and plant science

27 - 29 May 2026

Botanical gardens are uniquely positioned at the intersection of science, nature, and public engagement. They communicate complex topics such as biodiversity, climate change, plant science, and sustainability to wide audiences.

This three-day mutual learning workshop brings together botanical garden professionals, scientists and science communicators to exchange practical approaches to communicating science in botanical garden settings.

The workshop focuses on peer learning and real-world challenges from participants’ institutions, allowing the group to explore new ideas and formats for science communication.

A guiding question for the workshop is: how can botanical gardens communicate scientific knowledge in ways that are engagingaccessible and meaningful for diverse audiences?

Participants from botanical gardens and related institutions:

  • Botanical garden staff
  • Plant scientists and researchers
  • Science communicators / educators

Participants bring their own science communication challenges, which become the workshop's working material. Participants work in three teams of four people.
