Sandra Wind is a research associate at the Institute of Geosciences of Kiel University and received her doctorate in Canada, where she studied the formation of sulfide ore deposits in Greece. Silver mining has been practiced since antiquity and has often been crucial for the historical and economic development of a region. In a public talk at the Geological and Mineralogical Museum on June 18th, 2026, at 7 pm, Sandra Wind will explain the formation of silver ore deposits using historically significant examples from Greece (Attica) and Germany (Rammelsberg, Freiberg) and reveals where most of the silver is hidden. As in many deposits silver does not occur as native silver, but rather as a byproduct in lead-zinc ores.
