As part of Science Comes To Town (SCTT), the Kiel Research Workshop has developed a special public program:

On every second-to-last Thursday of the month, the teaching and learning laboratory opens its doors to the public. On Thursday, 23 July 2026, the team from archaeo:labor will take all interested visitors on a journey into the past from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Participants will first learn about the landscape history of Schleswig-Holstein and the region’s early human settlement. Afterwards, they will explore life in the Neolithic Period through a variety of hands-on stations and their own archaeological excavations.

For example, participants will examine pollen under a microscope to gain a better understanding of what the landscape looked like during the Neolithic era. At another station, they will investigate samples from a Neolithic hearth and learn more about prehistoric diets and food practices.
