Strategies for the Evaluation and Assessment Of Ocean based Carbon Dioxide Removal

19 - 20 May 2026 , 10:00 - 16:00

The General Assembly brings together members of the Horizon Europe project, SEAO2-CDR, to advance a shared roadmap for the evaluation of responsible marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), including methods like the restoration of seagrass meadows and ocean alkalinity enhancement. Achieving climate neutrality will require not only emissions reductions but also large-scale CO2 removal, and the ocean’s capacity to absorb carbon offers both major opportunities and important scientific, environmental, and governance challenges. The project aims to improve understanding of mCDR approaches, their monitoring needs, system-level impacts, and related social, economic, and regulatory frameworks. At the General Assembly, members will review progress across the core themes and strengthen collaboration across scientific, social, legal, and commercial perspectives.

The General Assembly is open to project members only.

The event is partner of Science Comes to Town.
